Responsibilities
- Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions
- Develop and deliver design output documents and analyses, including P&IDs, control logics, loop diagrams, instrument indices, setpoint lists, instrument and control valve specifications, DCS and PLC designs, instrument location and installation designs, panel layouts, and vendor document reviews
- Define the scope of technical programs and craft effective, quality solutions addressing unique or complex challenges while applying site systems to achieve quality, timely, and cost-efficient results
- Offer guidance to less experienced engineers on related tasks
- Apply specialized technical experience to resolve complex problems, and incorporate advanced practices and complex features into program planning
- Provide leadership and be recognized as a technical expert within functional areas
- Direct and coordinate efforts across departmental boundaries to explore new approaches and applications of engineering principles
- Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations
- Identify improvements when existing technology components and methods are insufficient
- Stay informed on evolving technology within your field and apply it to tasks
- Prepare plans with schedules, budgets, and staffing requirements for technical tasks
- Develop and monitor project schedules, expenditures, and quality of work
- Communicate results and objectives to customers, colleagues, and management in both verbal and written forms
- Occasionally prepare reports for external publication
Technologies
- MicroStation 2D CAD
Requirements
- Ten years of direct I&C design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or process chemical industries
- Design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs, and distributed control systems
- Proficiency in MicroStation 2D CAD
- Willingness to perform weekly field walk downs at the job site, which may include uneven surfaces, long walks, ladders, and protective clothing
- U.S. Citizenship required due to federal contract security
- Ability to pass a federal background investigation to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
- Health and safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing
- Federal drug-free workplace compliance regarding marijuana under Federal Law
Location and contract details
- Preferred: active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years
- Contract duration: one year with option to extend for two additional one-year periods
- Anticipated schedule: Mon-Thu, 6:45 am to 5:15 pm EST
- Projects supported: to be determined as needed
- Onsite requirement: 100% onsite. Local candidates or those willing to relocate at their own expense
