Information Systems Security Engineer
Job Description
Leidos is seeking a Secret cleared Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to support the United States Space Force. This remote role in Colorado Springs focuses on securing and operating a hybrid Azure cloud environment, with work centered on security design, hardening, risk management, compliance, and continuous monitoring aligned to DoD/NIST/RMF expectations.
You will help translate security requirements into practical controls across cloud infrastructure, while partnering with IT and engineering teams to support secure operations, auditing activities, and incident response readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain security solutions for a hybrid Azure cloud environment, aligned to DoD, NIST, and RMF standards.
- Harden systems and environments by applying security measures to network devices, servers, and cloud components to reduce threat and vulnerability exposure.
- Perform risk assessments, develop and update security policies, and implement security controls to mitigate identified risks.
- Ensure adherence to federal and military requirements, including FISMA, RMF, and DISA STIGs, and support audits and ATO processes.
- Participate in incident response planning and execution, including detection, analysis, and resolution of security incidents affecting cloud environments.
- Create and maintain security documentation such as system security plans, security impact analyses, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including system administrators, network engineers, and software developers to embed security into IT operations.
- Implement and manage continuous monitoring strategies to identify and respond to security issues promptly.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 4-8 years of experience; additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Active DoD Secret clearance and ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
- Minimum 4 years of cybersecurity experience, including at least 3 years focused on cloud security, preferably Azure.
- Experience with the DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) process.
- CISSP, CISM, or a comparable security certification.
- Azure security certifications (for example, Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate) are highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Azure security services including Azure Security Center, Azure Sentinel, Azure AD, and Azure Information Protection.
- Strong knowledge of network security, identity and access management, and encryption technologies.
- Experience with scripting such as PowerShell for automation and security tasks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, comfort in a fast-paced environment, and effective communication with stakeholders.
