Job Description
Lead Software Engineer focusing on AWS and Terraform at JPMorgan Chase in Wilmington, DE, delivering secure, scalable technology products and guiding architectural discussions, AI assisted engineering practices, and cross-team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Develops innovative software solutions from design through debugging, employing nontraditional approaches to solve complex problems.
- Writes secure, production-grade code and conducts peer reviews and debugging for other engineers.
- Identifies recurring issues and automates remediation to enhance the stability and reliability of applications and systems.
- Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectures, credentials, and fit within existing information architecture.
- Champions communities of practice to promote awareness and adoption of new and emerging technologies.
- Fosters an inclusive team culture that emphasizes diversity, opportunity, and respect.
- Promotes enterprise AI assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operations; establishes validation standards such as secure coding, peer review, and automated testing, while encouraging reuse of effective patterns.
- Utilizes SDLC tools including enterprise AI assisted development and automation to maximize automation value.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with 5+ years of hands-on experience.
- Proven experience delivering end-to-end solutions spanning system design, application development, testing, and production stability.
- Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, with Python highlighted.
- Practical cloud native engineering experience, including designing and operating AWS workloads.
- Strong AWS compute expertise (EC2, ECS/EKS, and/or Lambda) with focus on performance, resiliency, and cost awareness.
- Solid AWS networking knowledge (VPC, subnets, security groups, NACLs, Route 53, load balancers) to design secure, resilient architectures.
- Experience with AWS storage and data platforms (S3, EBS, EFS; and databases such as RDS/Aurora/DynamoDB as applicable).
- Proven Infrastructure-as-Code skills with Terraform, including reusable modules, remote state management and locking, and environment/workspace best practices.
- Strong automation and delivery capabilities, including CI/CD design, Terraform workflow integration, automated validation/testing (linting, plan approvals), and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Experience leading the effective use of AI-assisted software development tools with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Solid understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption.
