Lead Software Engineer - AWS / Python / AI
Job Description
JPMorganChase is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Commercial & Investment Bank - Applied AL/ML team in Houston. This onsite role centers on delivering secure, scalable technology while acting as a core technical contributor and championing AI-assisted engineering practices across the team to enhance code quality, delivery velocity, and operational resilience.
Responsibilities
- Designs and implements inventive software solutions, handling development and troubleshooting with the ability to tackle problems beyond routine approaches.
- Produces secure, production-grade code and reviews or debugs code written by peers.
- Drives adoption of enterprise approved AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, including AI-assisted code review, refactoring, faster test strategies, and incident/root-cause analysis support; establishes consistent validation standards and promotes reusable patterns across the team.
- Utilizes the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise AI-enabled development and automation capabilities, to maximize automation value.
- Identifies opportunities to automate recurring remediation tasks to improve overall software stability.
- Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to probe architectural designs and applicability within existing systems and information architecture.
- Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies.
- Contributes to a team culture that emphasizes diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with five or more years of applied experience.
- Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Advanced proficiency in Python.
- Proven experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure input/output handling, and adherence to resiliency and security standards; ability to coach engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices.
- Extensive experience building and operating AWS public cloud based applications.
- Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods across all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Experience with pipelines and DAGs for data processing and machine learning.
- Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline such as cloud, AI, and machine learning.
- In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
