Lead Software Engineer - Backend Java, Markets Tech
Job Description
Senior backend software engineer role within JPMorgan Chase Markets Tech, delivering secure, scalable backend services for Equities Broker-Dealer and Prime Finance with AI/GenAI integration across distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and troubleshoot innovative software solutions across distributed microservices to solve complex problems at scale.
- Deliver secure, high-quality production code and review others' code to sustain engineering excellence.
- Integrate AI/ML and GenAI into production platforms, including LLMs, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, and MLOps for lifecycle management, monitoring, and governance.
- Identify opportunities to automate recurring remediation to improve stability, resiliency, and performance of applications.
- Shape architecture and design decisions to support scalability and long-term platform evolution.
- Lead architecture evaluation sessions with internal teams to ensure alignment with enterprise technology strategy.
- Modernize platforms through cloud-native, event-driven, and microservices-based patterns.
- Collaborate with business, product, and operations teams to translate Prime Finance and Broker-Dealer requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Ensure robust delivery across environments with emphasis on SDLC, testing (unit, SIT, UAT), and production stability.
- Promote enterprise AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, including AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, and incident/root-cause analysis support, while enforcing secure coding and automated testing standards and encouraging reuse of proven patterns.
- Leverage the SDLC toolchain and enterprise AI-enabled development capabilities to maximize automation value.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering plus 5+ years of applied experience.
- Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Advanced proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs within a microservices distributed architecture.
- Strong experience with relational databases (Oracle/DB2) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB); familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and automation practices.
- Comprehensive understanding of the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical abilities, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Proven ability to build high-volume, low-latency, mission-critical financial systems.
- Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML and GenAI into enterprise applications, including LLMs, RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector stores/databases, model evaluation, and production monitoring (MLOps).
- Experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity handling, secure inputs/outputs, and coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption.
