Lead Software Engineer -Java/AWS
Job Description
Lead Software Engineer role within JPMorgan Chase's Consumer and Community Banking division, Connected Commerce/Payments, onsite in New York, NY, with a salary range of USD 152,000 to 215,000 per year and a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing technical guidance and direction to support the business and its technical teams, contractors, and vendors.
- Develop secure, high-quality production code and review or debug code written by others.
- Influence decisions that shape product design, feature functionality, and technical operations and processes.
- Champion the adoption of enterprise authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while establishing consistent validation standards and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
- Utilize the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to maximize automation value.
- Serve as a function-wide subject matter expert in one or more focus areas.
- Actively contribute to the engineering community by advocating firmwide SDLC frameworks, tools, and practices.
- Influence peers and project decision-makers to consider and apply leading-edge technologies.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts plus at least five years of applied experience.
- Experience leading technologist teams and coaching groups to achieve goals aligned with strategic initiatives.
- Experience hiring, developing, and recognizing talent.
- Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and maintaining operational stability.
- Advanced knowledge of software applications and processes with deep expertise in at least one technical discipline (cloud, AI/ML, mobile, etc.).
- Ability to independently tackle design and functionality challenges with minimal oversight.
- Proven track record of leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools and setting team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices.
- Proficiency in Java/J2EE and REST APIs, Web Services; experience building event-driven microservices and Kafka streaming.
- Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and AWS services in public cloud infrastructure.
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, resilience, and security.
- Working proficiency with development toolsets like Git/Bitbucket, JIRA, and Maven.
- Experience working at the code level.
