Job Description

Crane Aerospace & Electronics' Elyria, Ohio facility is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer APQP to help shape how parts are produced on the shop floor, ensuring methods align with product specifications and quality standards. The role emphasizes driving continuous improvement in machining and manufacturing strategies and will contribute to the site's AS9145 implementation. This position requires hands-on problem solving and collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide production‑support engineering by applying standard and advanced techniques, procedures, and criteria to back processes and systems.
  • Identify suitable equipment and machining strategies to manufacture machined components.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods using knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, and production equipment capabilities to meet quality standards.
  • Develop, test, and/or source and cost‑justify tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended methods, including capital justifications, implementation documentation, and training.
  • Create and maintain production routings, detailing each operation from raw material issuance through production, assembly, and test.
  • Define machines, tools, and gauges to be used, specify feeds and speeds, and address handling factors for each operation to meet product specifications.
  • Own and monitor assigned manufacturing areas to perform root cause analysis and collaborate with other functions to review and resolve processing issues with corrective actions.
  • Prepare component and assembly cost estimates to support financial decisions for evaluating new opportunities.
  • When applicable, create or modify NC/CNC programs to manufacture hardware per specifications while maintaining efficient production methods.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: 2-5 years in manufacturing, with preference for precision machining or automotive manufacturing.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly and production equipment; GD&T; CAD proficiency; automation or machining experience is highly desirable.
  • Specialized skills: Proficiency with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, etc. for AS9145 process controls.
  • Eligibility: May require access to Controlled Data or Information; only US Persons will be considered where access is required. As a DoD contractor, ITAR compliance applies.
