Materials Engineer - Brazing
Job Description
This permanent role in Wharton, New Jersey, supports advancement of brazing processes by diagnosing deviations, resolving brazing-related issues, and driving operator training, process improvements, and NADCAP-related activities within a manufacturing environment.
Summary
The Materials Engineer focused on brazing will identify root causes of deviations from critical braze specifications, address brazing issues, and lead initiatives in training, process optimization, and NADCAP support across manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities
- Identify root causes of deviations from key braze specifications and resolve brazing-related issues within a permanent engineering role.
- Educate operators on approved procedures and processes.
- Develop and update work instructions and training materials.
- Establish and sustain effective feedback systems.
- Monitor the Braze department's performance to ensure processes are optimized.
- Pursue continuous improvements across manufacturing processes.
- Enhance production capacity, product quality, and overall reliability.
- Collaborate with the automation team to improve first-time yield and equipment uptime.
- Design and implement strengthened preventive maintenance programs.
- Maintain NADCAP certification.
- Provide support to the Metallography lab as well as Heat Treatment, Weld, and Alloy Process Owners.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science.
- Experience with brazing, welding, and other metal joining systems and applying these in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of heat treatment and thermal processing with emphasis on brazing.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of an organization.
- U.S. Citizen or Green Card required for work with a defense contractor.
- Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
- Experience with controls and programming robotics.
- Ability to create and deliver training on technical topics.
- Experience troubleshooting process equipment.
