Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
Friesen's Inc is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and prototype automated processing systems, manage small to mid-size projects, and collaborate with clients, sales teams, and management from our Detroit Lakes, Minnesota facility.

Responsibilities
- Lead small to mid-size projects from concept to completion with minimal supervision.
- Engineer customized automated processing systems to meet client specifications, applying core engineering principles.
- Develop, refine, and assist with testing across all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
- Source components independently with limited guidance.
- Collaborate directly with clients on small to mid-size initiatives.
- Contribute to plant layout planning and optimization.
- Prototype, test, and validate mechanical parts and subassemblies.
- Validate subassemblies for the Senior Engineer, including fixture design, detailing, and assembly requirements.
- Assess feasibility, design, operation, and performance of equipment, components, or systems.
- Investigate equipment failures and troubleshoot difficulties.
- Diagnose faulty equipment or systems and propose improvements.
- Coordinate with internal departments to develop project designs and drawings.
- Review customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, or data to evaluate feasibility, cost, or maintenance needs.
- Demonstrate strong problem-finding and root-cause analysis for mechanical design issues.
- Collaborate with executive management, operations, project management, sales, and controls on client projects, expectations, and deliveries.
- Maintain familiarity with new technologies to improve design and quoting efficiency.
- Gather project information directly from customers and the sales team.
- Draft initial concept layouts for new equipment and systems.
- Present concept layouts to customers and the sales team for review.
- Provide project management support when required or assigned.
- Produce comprehensive engineering documentation, including layout plans, elevations, data sheets, and project specifications.
- Assist Sales during technical visits and project reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
- Ability to apply principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of mechanical systems.
- Design expertise for producing precision plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D experience.
- Attention to detail and strong project management capabilities.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player with multitasking ability.

Salary
USD 55,000 - 80,000 per year

Relocation
Relocation to Detroit Lakes, MN 56501 before starting work is preferred.
