Job Description
Zing Recruiting is seeking a Mechanical Engineer IV to lead and manage large-scale capital and renewal projects for a public agency in occupied spaces. This onsite, Fairfax, Virginia contract role requires directing design efforts, resolving construction issues, and delivering cohesive mechanical, plumbing, and building automation systems. The position emphasizes professional engineering oversight, strict adherence to codes, and cost-conscious project execution.
Compensation
- USD 69 per hour
Responsibilities
- Leads design projects and resolves construction issues as the primary representative for the project team.
- Sets project objectives and performance standards. Applies advanced engineering oversight to the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of HVAC, building automation systems (BAS), and plumbing for new, renovated, and renewal projects.
- Reviews and analyzes HVAC and plumbing plans to ensure code compliance and proper specifications.
- Serves as the department subject-matter expert and provides guidance to multiple county departments and agencies.
- As a licensed Professional Engineer, uses a strong technical background, design excellence, attention to detail, and quality control to prepare and review mechanical calculations, reports, construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and budgets for commercial building mechanical, plumbing, and BAS systems.
- Signs and seals own work as a licensed professional mechanical engineer.
- Ensures timely completion of assigned projects in line with Facilities Management Department (FMD) quality standards and industry practices, while maintaining financial and operational viability and cost efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and recent relevant experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Physical Requirements

- Dexterity to use hand tools.
- Must be able to communicate by phone.
- Must drive a motor vehicle.
- Vision to see detail drawings, construction, and discern color.
