Mechatronics Engineer
Job Description
Join ASML in Wilton, CT and work on mechatronics and control systems that support advanced lithography tool modules. You will specify, design, develop, realize, integrate, and test complex mechatronic hardware in a multi-disciplined environment, with collaboration across cross-functional partners and suppliers. This role includes end-to-end technical ownership across concept feasibility, new product introduction, sustainment, and customer-facing issue resolution, with opportunities to expand from executing well-defined work to leading broader technical scope as your job grade grows.
Responsibilities
- Identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements with traceability, coordinating verification criteria to confirm deliverables meet intent.
- Perform research and feasibility studies, document findings, and translate results into recommendations, tradeoffs, and decision inputs.
- Develop engineering concepts and solutions, make technical choices, and resolve issues to meet functionality, performance, cost, and compliance needs.
- Define and communicate specifications and high-level designs, align interfaces, and support reviews and approvals for quality execution.
- Support system and product integration by coordinating dependencies, applying configuration management, and enabling smooth project execution.
- Define and execute validation and test approaches, improve methods and procedures, and ensure qualification evidence supports release readiness.
- Estimate effort, plan and track work, manage risks and dependencies, and deliver assigned work packages or projects to agreed quality and timelines.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, share knowledge through coaching and mentoring as applicable, and follow EHS policies while identifying and mitigating safety risks.
What You Will Work On
- Specify and design custom mechatronics systems with a cross-sector team, including stages, rotary motion, multi-link positioners, sensors, servos, and actuators.
- Lead sustaining engineering work by resolving equipment design issues in a timely manner, including troubleshooting from system to component level.
- Design, develop, and run validation and verification (V&V) strategy, including complex mechatronic system test and qualification of design changes.
- Design, develop, and build product-specific test tooling, and document test procedures and test reports.
- Support future concepts through concept designs and experiments for future equipment and subsystems.
- Contribute to robust designs using six sigma and lean process techniques and support clean manufacturing documentation practices.
Requirements
- BS or BE degree in a relevant technical field required.
- Ability to identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements with traceability; translate them into clear specifications; and align interfaces so deliverables meet intent and enable reliable downstream design, integration, and verification.
- Ability to develop engineering concepts and solutions, make sound technical tradeoffs, resolve issues, and realize designs meeting functionality, performance, cost, compliance, and schedule constraints within system and module specifications.
- Ability to plan and execute verification and validation, ensure qualification evidence supports release readiness, and support integration through coordinated dependencies and disciplined configuration/traceability.
- Mechatronics engineering background or specialization in closely related areas such as robotics or other fields.
- Experience with PID controllers, linear and nonlinear calibrations, and flexible dynamics.
- Ability to apply classical control theory and digital control theory, including frequency domain methods (Nyquist/Bode plots), VAJ, feedback/feedforward, stability concepts, transfer functions, continuous/discrete feedback control, and real-time controls.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills in English, including presenting results supported by statistical evidence to audiences with a wide range of technical abilities.
