Job Description

Compensation for this role ranges from USD 72,800 to 93,600 per year. The position is based onsite in Columbia, MD and supports the Construction Management Team on a major roadway improvement and weigh station project. The Office Engineer will provide on-site and office oversight, handle project administration, manage the schedule and submittals, oversee QA/QC and safety, and coordinate with the client.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full-time on-site, office and field oversight for a major roadway improvement project
  • Oversee activities for the weigh station project
  • Manage project administration and maintain project records
  • Maintain accurate documentation and correspondence
  • Prepare and enter payments and maintain related records
  • Prepare and distribute project correspondence and reports
  • Attend project meetings and record meeting minutes
  • Review the Contractor's baseline schedule and periodic updates, identify risks, and coordinate corrective actions with the client
  • Review daily inspection reports and verify payment quantities against contract requirements
  • Review, verify and process contractor pay applications and related quantities
  • Review, log and coordinate with the Designer of Record to respond to submittals, RFIs and shop drawings
  • Ensure field staff have current construction documents and inspector reports reflect plans and specifications
  • Confirm as-built sketches, quantity calculations and manpower/resource tracking are accurate
  • Coordinate QC/QA testing subcontractor schedules
  • Coordinate client and third-party inspections of partial and as-built deliverables, including commissioning of civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and control systems
  • Support commissioning of these systems and assist with punch lists and project closeouts
  • Support final inspections and acceptance processes
  • Monitor contractor compliance with approved Safety and Health Plans, site safety plans and OSHA requirements; promote a strong safety culture and address unsafe conditions promptly
  • Ensure compliance with construction permits, environmental permits, and applicable regulations of AHJs including the Client, Local, State and Federal agencies
  • Perform additional duties as required by business needs

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
  • Minimum three years of experience in an Office Engineer, Construction Inspector or similar role
  • Ability to read plans and specifications and prepare contract administration documentation
  • Ability to advise senior staff of potential change orders, differing field conditions and overruns
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to safety and ethical decision-making; adhere to WSP health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies
