PCB Design Engineer
Job Description
Frontgrade Technologies LLC is seeking a Principal PCB Design Engineer to lead the creation, optimization, and long-term maintenance of PCB layouts and libraries. Based in Huntsville, AL on-site, this role partners with internal teams and external PCB vendors to deliver designs that meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Create PCB symbols, footprints, pad stacks, layouts, and prototypes aligned to project specifications using tools such as Altium Designer or Siemens Expedition.
- Develop schematic symbols and component footprints to support accurate PCB integration.
- Establish and maintain company PCB guidelines, ensuring designs follow industry and approved vendor standards.
- Produce fabrication and assembly drawings, Gerber files, BOMs, and revision-controlled design documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners across hardware, mechanical, and manufacturing to keep PCB work aligned with product goals.
- Ensure PCB designs meet relevant standards including IPC, JEDEC, EMC, UL, CE, and other applicable requirements.
- Review and update existing designs to improve performance, cost efficiency, or manufacturability.
Requirements
- Proficiency in PCB design software and experience spanning schematic capture, high-speed design, signal integrity analysis, and DFM (Design for Manufacturability).
- Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics, computer engineering, or a related field; bachelor’s degree preferred (not required).
- Minimum 10–15 years of PCB design experience.
- IPC, CID, REACH, or other relevant industry certifications are often preferred.
- Strong problem-solving capability and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of PCB materials, manufacturing processes, and thermal management.
- Experience with HDI (high-density interconnect) and high-power designs.
- Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and dependencies.
