Job Description

PrimeTest Automation designs and implements automated systems for manufacturing environments, with a focus on PLC programming, robotics integration, and electrical control design. The PLC Programmer/Controls Engineer will shape the control architecture, create electrical drawings, and develop safety circuits to support scalable automation solutions onsite in Fort Lauderdale. The role includes travel to customer sites up to 15% and relocation to Fort Lauderdale, FL is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC programs and robotic control sequences
  • Create electrical drawings and wiring schematics
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards
  • Specify electrical components for automation systems
  • Design automation machinery using AutoCAD
  • Review and verify models in AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Develop safety circuits for automation cells
  • Produce print packages for part production
  • Oversee fabrication of electrical controls with vendors and in-house technicians
  • Document automation processes, including machine sequencing and work instructions
  • Coordinate with Metal Fabrication, Engineering, and Software Managers
  • Manage electrical assembly and supervise electrical technicians
  • Maintain shop organization and cleanliness
  • Wiring systems and mounting components when required
  • Test and troubleshoot assembled systems
  • Uphold general safety practices
  • Travel to customer facilities as needed, up to 15%

Requirements

  • Accredited four-year engineering degree or computer science degree preferred
  • Automation or machine-building experience in academic or professional settings
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and OSHA machine safety standards
  • Experience programming PLCs and machine controls
  • Robotics programming knowledge is preferred
  • Understanding of safety circuits for automation cells
  • Ability to create electrical drawings accurately
  • Ability to specify electrical components required by a system
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with automation in a dynamic environment
  • Effective communication with management, customers, and vendors
