Position Summary
The Principal Electronics Engineer leads applied research, design, development, testing, manufacturing, and documentation of products or systems. The role involves identifying and recommending design solutions, engaging directly with customers to capture requirements, and applying research techniques to analyze and validate concepts. This position also provides direction and mentorship to engineers and engineering technicians assigned to programs and collaborates with senior professionals both inside and outside AE.
Responsibilities
- Design and analyze systems, products, and subsystems or circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.
- Diagnose issues across design, field performance, reliability, and test yields, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Take responsibility for the success of the product or system in customers' applications and apply corrective actions as needed.
- Follow key engineering procedures in the Product Development Process and ECO process.
- Collaborate with manufacturing locations and supply chain groups to implement cost reductions, manufacturability improvements, and quality improvements for existing products.
Work Environment
Location: Eden Prairie, MN 55344
Environment: Works in a noisy, fast-paced power development lab and standard office environment.
Flexibility: Ability to work across time zones as part of a global team, as required.
Travel and interfaces: Domestic and international travel up to 10%. Interfaces with internal and external customers. Onsite technical support at customer locations.
Qualifications
Essential
- Proven professional skills as an experienced engineer with a thorough understanding of medical practices and company policies/procedures (10+ years of experience).
- Ability to solve complex technical problems independently.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide technical mentoring to other team members.
- Experience influencing and negotiating in complex situations.
Desirable
- Power electronics design
- AC/DC and DC/DC switched mode power supply design
- Power Factor Correction design
- EMI and EMC design and resolution
- Magnetic Design
- RF Power Design
- Simulation Package Expertise
- Designing for Safety and Compliance (Medical background a plus)
- Understanding of firmware and coding
- Designing for thermals
- Familiarity with IEC60601-2-2
Experience
12+ years of experience, including Experience with Switch Mode Power Supplies / Power Electronics.
Education
B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
Compensation
In accordance with state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a defined compensation range for this role. The starting pay range is $130,000 to $170,000 per year. This position is eligible to participate in our annual Short Term Incentive Program.
