Job Description

Pinnacle Specialty Group, Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer-I&C Design Engineer to lead instrumentation and control design programs, tackle complex challenges, and deliver design outputs such as P&IDs, control logic, and diagrams in line with SRNS processes.

Responsibilities

  • Define the scope of technical programs and develop high quality solutions for unique or controversial challenges.
  • Creatively meet company and industry requirements while applying site systems to achieve quality, timely, and cost-effective results.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
  • Apply specialized technical experience or broad cross-disciplinary knowledge to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and manage complex features such as new materials, processes, or coordination needs in problem solving and planning.
  • Lead in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as an expert in one or more technical areas.
  • Provide direction on programs inside and outside the department, pursuing new approaches and applications of engineering principles.
  • Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations based on findings.
  • Identify and recommend improvements when existing technology components or methodologies are insufficient.
  • Stay informed of technological advancements relevant to the area of expertise.
  • Prepare plans with schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for technical tasks.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress, track expenditures, and review work quality.
  • Communicate results and objectives verbally and in writing to customers, colleagues, and management.
  • Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
  • Enhance expertise through leadership in local technical societies.
  • Demonstrate creative problem solving through patent disclosures, engineering reports, technical papers, and articles.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) years of direct I&C design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
  • Design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs, and distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Proficiency in MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship required due to government and/or federal regulations.

Additional Duties

  • Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
  • Lead engineering analysis, field walkdowns, design development, and creation of design output documents including P&IDs, control logics, loop diagrams, instrument indices, setpoint lists, instrument and control valve specifications, DCS and PLC design, instrument location and installation design, panel layouts, and vendor document reviews.
  • Deliver engineering services using SRNS processes and procedures.

Additional Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, I&C Engineering, or current Professional Engineer (PE) registration in one of these disciplines.

Additional Experience Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of direct I&C design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
  • Design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs, and distributed control systems.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation 2D CADD software.

Additional Work Requirements

  • Ability to perform weekly field walk downs at job sites, which may involve uneven surfaces and active construction areas, walking distances over half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, and wearing protective clothing.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • Office environment with standard office equipment and keyboards; light to moderate lifting may be required for packages and other items.
  • Ability to walk short distances, stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
