Job Description

Brooklyn, NY onsite Principal Software Engineer, AI Systems for an AI-powered experiential marketing SaaS, with compensation of USD 150,000 - 210,000 per year and a minimum of 6 years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of a modern SaaS web application with integrated AI features
  • Design features for serverless and edge compute environments to handle long running tasks, emphasizing correctness, performance, and adaptability
  • Model complex data scenarios in a relational database, manage schema migrations, optimize queries, and enforce data security with row-level policies
  • Write production-grade TypeScript across the full stack: Next.js App Router (React) with Tailwind for the frontend, Supabase Edge Functions (Deno) on the backend, and PostgreSQL with RLS for data integrity
  • Build and maintain the AI pipeline and orchestration system (Claude Haiku + Sonnet) to produce structured outputs with prompt caching and Zod-validated schemas
  • Develop UI features using the Glow UI design system to ensure fast, intentional interactions
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions and Vercel webhooks
  • Engage in product and UX discussions with transparent, opinionated input on what to build and why
  • Develop and maintain test suites that provide timely feedback to support rapid but reliable progress

Requirements

  • You've shipped a production system that calls an LLM with structured reasoning, including prompt caching, Zod-validated outputs, evaluation harnesses, and debuggability for mis-shaped results weeks after deployment
  • Proven experience shipping full-stack TypeScript products in production
  • Debugged a broken RLS policy
  • Know when to use a database function versus application logic and distinguish configurable versus static state
  • Can articulate data fetching patterns and explain why optimistic updates improve user experience
  • 6+ years building production web applications, with at least 1 year working on production AI/LLM systems
  • Comfortable being the most senior technical voice in the room, willing to push back on poor ideas and execute decisions even if they add backend complexity to enhance the user experience

Technology

  • TypeScript, Next.js App Router, React, TailwindCSS, Supabase Edge Functions, Deno, PostgreSQL, RLS (Row-Level Security), Zod
  • Anthropic Claude Haiku, Anthropic Claude Sonnet
  • Glow UI, SWR, SWR Mutation, Vitest, Github Actions, Vercel

Not the Right Fit If

  • You've used LLM APIs but haven't designed a production pipeline around them
  • You're transitioning from frontend-only or backend-only work and want to grow into full-stack
  • You need an engineering manager, a senior peer to learn from, or structured onboarding to ramp up
  • This would be your first Senior, Lead, or Principal role

Culture

  • We uphold strong architectural opinions to move fast without reinventing the wheel on every feature
  • We move quickly while maintaining clean builds, lint, and tests; surprises are minimized to save time
  • We address issues openly and directly, prioritizing the user experience and scalability
  • AI is treated as a collaborator; you should be comfortable prompting, evaluating, and iterating on AI-generated code

Logistics

  • W-2 employment in the United States
  • New York City based, in-office at the Brooklyn office

Application Questions

  • Describe the most complex production system you've designed and shipped end-to-end. What was the hardest architectural decision you made, and what would you do differently now?
  • A link to something you've built (GitHub repo, deployed product, technical writeup, or portfolio piece). Add one sentence on what we should look at and why.
