Process Controls Analyst/Engineer

Marathon Petroleum is seeking a Process Controls Analyst/Engineer for an onsite role in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The position centers on programming, supporting, and troubleshooting local control logic and HMI systems (DCS/SCADA), while maintaining documentation through the MOC process and backing maintenance and capital controls projects with a focus on safety and regulatory objectives.

Responsibilities

• Program, support, and troubleshoot local control logic, HMI displays, and supporting technologies (networks, remote communications and metering) to meet operational, economic, and regulatory objectives. This includes DCS, SCADA platforms, and HMI applications such as DeltaV, Ignition, GeoSCADA, Wonderware, or equivalent.
• Maintain C&E and controls narrative documentation through the MOC process; use this documentation to support and sign off FAT and SAT tests. Documentation may include control narratives, cause‑and‑effect matrices, and control logic descriptions for DCS, SCADA, and RTU‑based systems.
• Troubleshoot advanced abnormal conditions with other operations and engineering teams and assist in their resolution. Issues may involve control logic execution, HMI behavior, data quality, remote asset communications, or RTU integration.
• Understand all control system drawings and P&IDs and use them to perform advanced troubleshooting of system processes.
• Collaborate as a team member on maintenance and capital Controls projects; may serve as a team lead; seek mentors for technical and career guidance; assist less experienced colleagues.
• Demonstrate familiarity with MPLX and industry standards/guidelines, applying them by referencing proven examples.
• Contribute to safety-related processes and programs, and learn supplementary concepts such as layers of protection analysis (LOPA), area classification, and safety bypass/OOS concepts.

Requirements

• Associate's degree or vocational qualifications in a related field required.
• Eleven (11) years of related experience required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
