Job Description

Project Engineer role in Spokane Valley, WA onsite, focused on transmission analysis and design using PLS-CADD for utility clients.

Responsibilities

  • Work largely independently on individual projects, coordinating with team members and other departments as needed.
  • Review customer application documents, notifications, and scopes of work, and collaborate with customers to resolve inconsistencies.
  • Conduct field site visits to collect and verify project data and existing equipment details.
  • Read and interpret utility standards, the National Electrical Safety Code, Washington Administrative Code, and local jurisdictional requirements to assess transmission structures, verify clearances, and design replacements.
  • Use field notes, LiDAR, mapping software, records, photos, and other resources to develop 3D models for analysis and reporting.
  • Apply critical thinking and deductive reasoning to solve complex problems with limited standardization.
  • Communicate project status, concerns, obstacles, and ready-to-work tasks clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently with flexibility to shifting priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university; or 3+ years of related experience and/or training in lieu of education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD is required; familiarity with O-Calc or other power industry CAD software is a plus.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or other CAD/3D modeling programs.
  • Ability to apply basic principles of mathematics and physics to solve problems by hand.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information, technical procedures, and data in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to write business correspondence and communicate effectively.

About This Role

This position involves collaborating with a professional transmission engineering team in Spokane Valley, delivering accurate analysis and design support for multiple utility clients using PLS-CADD. It is suitable for a Project Engineer I with at least one year of directly applicable experience in an electric utility or telecommunications setting, ideally with PLS-CADD. Candidates without prior applicable industry experience may be considered for an Associate Project Engineer level.

Compensation Range

USD 36.00 - 48.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
