Project Engineer

Marathon Petroleum Company LP (MPLX NG&NGL) is seeking a Project Engineer to lead midstream gas processing facility projects in a role that spans engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. This position is based in San Antonio, TX (onsite) and reports to the Engineering Director. You will collaborate across teams, help set up the right engineering and project decisions, and support safe, environmentally responsible project execution.

What you’ll do

The Project Engineer manages assigned projects end-to-end, covering project scope, cost, schedule, and feasibility. Work includes concept engineering through detailed design, equipment selection and procurement, and contractor selection and construction oversight. You will also lead management of change activities and support the project objectives through commissioning and start-up.

• Coordinate with affected departments during project development to validate resource estimates, schedules, business benefits, and environmental/health/safety impacts.
• Support detailed design and technical reviews to align engineering work with corporate engineering standards.
• Prepare bid requests for materials, labor, and equipment; evaluate proposals using sound engineering and business principles.
• Support multiple projects at once, with varying magnitude and complexity, from conception through commissioning and start-up.
• Serve as a safety leader by upholding company core values and prioritizing personal and process safety, including leading engaging project safety meetings and driving use of the MOC process.
• Support development and implementation of business partner energy isolation procedures and align with departmental and company HES goals.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and optimize processes using established engineering practices.
• Participate in project safety reviews such as HAZOPs, PHAs, PSSRs, and related activities.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, chemical, or electrical engineering (ABET accredited institution) required.
• Professional experience in engineering, construction, and/or Project Management preferred.
• Experience in the petrochemical industry, gas processing design, fabrication, and construction preferred.
• Previous experience with PSM covered assets preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels preferred.
• Current valid driver’s license required.
• Office-based role with frequent field travel up to 50% of the time.

Compensation and benefits

• Salary: $93,000.00 to $160,300.00 per year
