Project Engineer, Infra Electrical

Samsung Austin Semiconductor is seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of critical electrical infrastructure projects. In this role, you will help shape CAPEX roadmaps that keep 24x7x365 semiconductor operations running reliably while enabling capacity growth and end-of-life upgrades.

Working onsite in Austin, TX, you will oversee project execution across the full lifecycle, from conceptual design through delivery and turnover to Operations, with a focus on power system uptime, scalability, and compliance.

Role Focus

• Develop and execute CAPEX roadmaps for essential electrical infrastructure.
• Lead end-of-life retrofit and capacity expansion projects for semiconductor facilities.
• Own engineering activities spanning design, specifications, safety validation, and lifecycle oversight.
• Support power systems that meet uptime, scalability, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, code compliance, and safety validation for power distribution systems to support peak equipment performance.
• Oversee the complete project lifecycle, from planning and conceptual design through execution and delivery, aligned to scope, schedule, and budget.
• Develop, review, and approve site-wide electrical specifications for medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) distribution equipment.
• Author Feasibility Reports and Conceptual Designs for new Capital Investment Projects (CIP) and R&M (Repair & Maintenance) expense projects.
• Provide engineering support from pre-construction through construction and final turnover to Operations.
• Manage day-to-day activities of external consultant design teams, general contractors, and subcontractors for new builds and retrofit efforts.
• Develop comprehensive, accurate sequences of operations for newly designed systems.
• Apply and maintain industry standards, including SEMI F47 for voltage sag ride-through, to protect facility uptime.
• Perform Arc-Flash analysis and maintain site-wide code compliance.
• Proactively monitor and support uptime and performance of site power systems.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews on engineering deliverables and vendor proposals.
• Participate in internal and external ISO 50001 audits and support corporate sustainability and energy-efficiency goals.
• Partner with Project Managers, field technicians, and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve complex infrastructure challenges.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
• Minimum 2+ years of electrical design or project experience in an industrial setting.
• Knowledge of MV/LV (15kV–208V) equipment, including power system fault/coordination studies, protection schemes, and protective relays.
• Experience with the design, sizing, and operation of Motor Control Centers (MCCs), ATS, STS, Transformers, Emergency Generators, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
• Knowledge of electric motors and variable/adjustable frequency drives (VFD/AFD).
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as MODBUS or other relevant industry standards.
• Proficiency in IBC, IFC, NFPA, and other regulatory codes applicable to industrial power distribution design and construction.
• Proficiency with electrical modeling software, e.g., ETAP and SKM.
• Proven experience managing projects from design and specification through construction administration.
• Ability to interpret complex design plans and shop drawings and conduct rigorous field reviews of work-in-progress.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical content to diverse organizations.
• PMP certification is a plus.
• Strong creative problem-solving skills, leadership potential, and drive to meet aggressive goals within tight timelines.

Compensation and Work Model

• Compensation: USD 76,000 - 145,000 per year (base salary range)

Total Rewards

• The current base salary range for this role is between $76,000 - $145,000.
• Total compensation includes a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs based on organizational and individual performance.
