Overview
The position involves professional structural design and support across projects that protect public health. You will lead structural design efforts for wastewater, solid waste, and collection-system facilities, perform analyses, conduct site inspections, and collaborate with civil, architectural, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and prepare plans, specifications, and engineering calculations for administrative, wastewater treatment, collection systems, and solid waste facilities
- Provide design support during construction of capital projects
- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of work for engineering projects
- Drive to various sites for inspections or meetings
- Participate in reviewing or evaluating the work of others such as consultants, vendors or temporary agency workers on a project basis
Requirements
- A valid California Class C driver license

Educational and credential options:
- Option 1: A bachelor's degree and master’s degree both in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited and recognized college or university
- Option 2: A bachelor's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a related science with an Engineer-In-Training Certificate and a master’s degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a pertinent engineering discipline
- Option 3: Two (2) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university

Experience and licensure options:
- Option 1: Two (2) years of experience as an Engineering Associate II
- Option 2: Four (4) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university
- Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer with the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists
- Option 1: Six (6) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university
- Option 2: A master’s degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university -AND- Three (3) years of professional engineering experience
- Option 3: A PhD in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university -AND- two (2) years of professional engineering experience

Job Summary
Under the general supervision of a Supervising Engineer, the incumbent will design and prepare plans, specifications and engineering calculations for administrative, wastewater treatment, collection systems, and solid waste facilities. The role includes providing design support during the construction of capital projects, planning and coordinating detailed phases of engineering work, traveling to site locations for inspections or meetings, and reviewing or evaluating the work of others such as consultants, vendors, or temporary personnel on a project basis.
Desirable Qualifications
- Licensure as a Professional Structural Engineer
- At least eight (8) years of professional structural engineering experience
- Professional design experience in the water and wastewater infrastructure industry
