Project Engineer - Water/Wastewater
Job Description
RK&K’s Environmental team is seeking a Project Engineer focused on Water and Wastewater to help drive municipal projects from planning through construction. This onsite role in Virginia Beach supports a range of projects across Virginia Beach, Newport News, and Richmond, collaborating with project managers and cross-functional teams to deliver effective solutions for communities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for water and wastewater projects
- Perform technical evaluations to support planning and design of water and wastewater systems
- Draft and review technical memoranda, engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Direct and assist in developing project staff and coordinating with subconsultants
- Lead internal and client meetings, deliver presentations, and obtain plan approvals
- Participate in community outreach tasks
- Support field testing and investigations
- Manage construction projects with office engineering services, including submittal review, contract document interpretation, RFIs, correspondence, change requests, change orders, site visits, and coordination with inspection personnel
- Provide construction inspection and administration for water and wastewater pipelines, pumping stations, storage, and treatment facility construction projects
- Communicate effectively and coordinate with clients, project teams, other engineering disciplines, designers, and subconsultants
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering field
- Engineering in Training Certificate
- 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in study, design, construction administration, and inspection of water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure (pipelines, pump stations, treatment)
- Self-starter with versatility and interest in a variety of projects supporting the Water and Wastewater Group
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Solution-minded with a strong problem-solving orientation
- Proven ability to document, organize, and present project data effectively
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel, and PowerPoint
