Project Engineer - Water/Wastewater

RK&K’s Environmental team is seeking a Project Engineer focused on Water and Wastewater to help drive municipal projects from planning through construction. This onsite role in Virginia Beach supports a range of projects across Virginia Beach, Newport News, and Richmond, collaborating with project managers and cross-functional teams to deliver effective solutions for communities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for water and wastewater projects
• Perform technical evaluations to support planning and design of water and wastewater systems
• Draft and review technical memoranda, engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents
• Direct and assist in developing project staff and coordinating with subconsultants
• Lead internal and client meetings, deliver presentations, and obtain plan approvals
• Participate in community outreach tasks
• Support field testing and investigations
• Manage construction projects with office engineering services, including submittal review, contract document interpretation, RFIs, correspondence, change requests, change orders, site visits, and coordination with inspection personnel
• Provide construction inspection and administration for water and wastewater pipelines, pumping stations, storage, and treatment facility construction projects
• Communicate effectively and coordinate with clients, project teams, other engineering disciplines, designers, and subconsultants

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering field
• Engineering in Training Certificate
• 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in study, design, construction administration, and inspection of water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure (pipelines, pump stations, treatment)
• Self-starter with versatility and interest in a variety of projects supporting the Water and Wastewater Group
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills
• Solution-minded with a strong problem-solving orientation
• Proven ability to document, organize, and present project data effectively
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel, and PowerPoint
