Resident Engineer (Roadway Infrastructure)
Job Description
A Resident Engineer role based onsite in Chicago, overseeing roadway and bridge construction projects and ensuring contractor compliance with IDOT, IL Tollway, and IL Higher Education policies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee roadway and bridge construction projects to ensure contractors adhere to IDOT, Illinois Tollway, and Illinois Higher Education policies and procedures.
- Read and interpret project specifications, plans, and proposals for roadway, bridge, vertical construction, and drainage works.
- Lead field personnel and supervise contractor performance.
- Interpret plans, specifications, and construction methods.
- Verify that construction conforms to approved plans and specifications.
- Ensure projects comply with applicable LEED requirements.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation and regular reports.
- Document and approve construction materials in accordance with Owner requirements.
- Prepare change orders and payment requests.
- Maintain the project schedule and keep work on track.
- Notify Contractor, Construction Manager, or Owner of non-conforming work when observed.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in civil engineering or a related field.
- Direct experience communicating with clients.
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents and construction drawings.
- Five years of experience on IDOT, Illinois Higher Education Facilities, and Illinois Tollway construction projects.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficient with web-based tools, CAD platforms, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong time management and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.

Experience
- IDOT and IL Tollway construction: 5 years (preferred)
- Civil engineering road infrastructure: 5 years (required)
License / Certification
- LEED certification preferred
