Job Description
Genesis Technical Staffing seeks a Senior Controls Engineer to oversee the installation and commissioning of shipboard automation and control systems from its Mobile, Alabama site. This onsite leadership role directs engineers and designers, ensuring that automation solutions align with contract requirements while integrating with the vessel’s electrical and mechanical design.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert judgment and analysis for the design and integration of shipboard automation and control systems in line with the vessel’s mechanical and electrical design.
- Troubleshoot and resolve highly complex PLC, DCS, and automation system issues in a timely manner.
- Communicate well-researched, technically sound resolutions to management.
- Leverage extensive controls and automation knowledge to guide complex system development, specification trace packages, detailed engineering reports, and system drawings.
- Verify designs and drawings for accuracy and adherence to contract requirements.
- Facilitate training, mentoring, and the professional development of other engineers.
- Establish and coordinate relationships with other engineers, departments, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure on-time, to-spec project completion.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of automation and controls experience in industrial settings or the shipbuilding industry.
- Experience configuring, programming, installing, and testing PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
- Experience operating within a Windows Server environment.
- Hands-on configuration and commissioning experience with sensors, switches, valve actuators, variable speed drives, and other field devices.
- Design, installation, and troubleshooting experience with Profibus, Modbus RTU/TCP, and Serial ASCII communication protocols.
- Ability to work in field environments domestically and internationally.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of scheduling and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Experience interacting with Production teams, multiple design groups from several companies, customer representatives, and equipment manufacturers.

Pay
USD 90,000 - 152,000 per year
