Job Description

Senior Controls Engineer I will support Primary Processing operations at the Richmond, VA manufacturing center through control system development, process performance analysis, and reliability-focused improvements.

  • On-call technical support: Provide control system support during normal and off-business hours, including weekends and holidays, to meet business needs for tobacco processing
  • PLC and HMI development: Develop process control (PLC) software and operator interfaces (HMI)
  • Control system enhancements: Develop and deploy improvements to increase process capability for product requirements and business demand
  • Process data analysis: Analyze process data to evaluate process health and performance
  • Project planning and execution: Plan and execute projects and support maintenance using internal union labor and external resources, aligned to union notification processes
  • Reliability initiatives: Support reliability initiatives by minimizing failures through root cause analysis, predictive maintenance, and failure prevention strategies
  • Engineering best practices: Assist in projects and apply engineering best practices and standards under guidance
  • Problem-solving and improvement: Apply problem-solving techniques to improve methods, processes, products, systems, documentation, and equipment
  • Mentorship: Mentor team members, operations, and maintenance on technical topics

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years supporting process control systems, instrumentation, sensors, valves, and associated hardware/software systems (including human-machine interfaces, process historians, digital networks, and digital control systems)
  • Desirable development experience: Allen-Bradley ControlLogix; FactoryTalk View; Modicon 984 Ladder/Concept/Unity; Canary; Intouch Standalone and System Platform
  • Processing and engineering background: Working knowledge of processing and packaging machinery; engineering project structure; background in mechanical and electrical systems
  • Preferred documentation knowledge: P&IDs and Loop Sheets
  • Manufacturing environment: Experience in a rapid, agile, consumer-driven manufacturing environment

Compensation

  • Salary range: USD 91,500 - 128,850 per year
  • Note: Starting salary based on experience, knowledge, and qualifications
