Job Description
Liberty Mutual is building out its Data and Analytics Engineering capabilities through the Frontier and PL Distribution space, and this Senior Data Engineer role supports that effort. You will design and deliver production-ready data solutions within an agile, squad-based environment, partnering with business and technical teams to turn requirements into reliable data products.
This is a U.S.-based hybrid position based in Boston, MA with 2 days in the office per week (Boston, Portsmouth, or Indianapolis).
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, data models, and integration processes using modern cloud-based technologies (including AWS and Snowflake)
- Analyze complex datasets and technical problems to develop flexible, innovative solutions that meet business needs
- Collaborate with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical data solutions
- Build and support ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources, including APIs, flat files, and enterprise applications
- Implement data quality checks such as validation rules, reconciliations, exception handling, and monitoring to protect data integrity
- Develop automated tests spanning Unit, System, Integration, and Regression scopes to improve reliability and accuracy
- Perform data profiling, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting across production and non-production environments
- Document data flows, data dictionaries, and technical specifications to support data governance and knowledge sharing
- Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities across data engineering processes and tooling
- Contribute to code reviews and engineering best practices while working with engineers and architects
- Use AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical or business discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 5-6 years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, or a related technical role
- Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex query writing, data modeling, and working with relational and analytical databases
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and tools such as Snowflake, AWS, or similar technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and communicate data-driven insights
- Demonstrated ability to work in an agile, squad-based environment with cross-functional teams
- Proactive, self-motivated, logical approach with strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with data integration and ETL/ELT tools such as IDMC
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and software development best practices

Compensation and Location
- Location: Boston, MA (hybrid), with 2 days in the office per week in Boston, Portsmouth, or Indianapolis
- Salary: USD 106,000 - 197,000 per year
