Senior Electrical Engineer
Job Description
This role supports the design and delivery of Powell standard products by working from customer specifications and coordinating technical output across sales, customers, and the shop floor. Based in North Canton, OH on an onsite basis, the Senior Electrical Engineer contributes to electrical design work and provides engineering support through review, troubleshooting, and direction of drafting activities.
You will read and interpret requirements, produce and transmit drawings, and help ensure wiring diagram accuracy through analysis and oversight. Completed assignments are reviewed by more senior engineers, while you independently apply product knowledge to resolve straightforward application issues with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Design standard jobs with guidance.
- Read and interpret customer job specifications.
- Order materials as part of the project workflow.
- Create drawings and transmit drawings to the shop and customer.
- Interface with sales and customers (with supervisor) and with shop personnel.
- Support technical work by checking wiring diagrams completed by others.
- Direct designers to complete wiring diagrams.
- Participate in a process where completed tasks are checked by more senior engineers.
Requirements
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related area.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in an engineering role.
- Ability to check wiring diagrams completed by others.
- Available to analyze and answer technical questions from designers.
- Ability to interact on a regular basis with shop personnel.
- Apply product knowledge and technical skills to solve simple application problems independently with minimum supervision.
- Basic computer skills using Oracle, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to order material electronically.
- Advanced drafting and CAD skills.
- Proficiency with electrical design and circuitry.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical symbols and characters and modify drawings.
- Ability to apply NEC, ANSI, and other applicable codes as part of day-to-day activity.
- Basic understanding of power system and relay applications as applied to products.
- Ability to apply industry standards as applicable to job and product.
- Innovative mindset to improve existing products and design one product economically while achieving quality.
- Attend in-house and outside training sessions and local professional associations.
- Learn and follow policies and procedures, work instructions, ISO policies, safety rules and regulations, and vendor products.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
