Senior Fiber Optic Module Packaging Engineer
Job Description
Senior Fiber Optic Module Packaging Engineer position based in Sunnyvale, CA, onsite at Coherent Corp.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop multi-fiber module packaging for fiber optic devices and modules, covering enclosure, fiber mounting, connections, and sealing.
- Perform packaging design simulations and analyses to meet operating conditions, including vibration, shock, and environmental testing.
- Select materials considering thermal stability, mechanical strength, and thermal expansion; identify vendors for components.
- Develop specifications that satisfy performance requirements while achieving cost targets.
- Create manufacturing fixtures and inspection processes; conduct reliability and qualification testing to verify module performance and reliability.
- Release designs to manufacturing and lead the transfer of designs to production.
- Provide ongoing technical support and failure analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in telecommunications, optomechanical engineering, physics, or a related technical field.
- At least 2 years of related experience.
- Familiar with telecom fibers, cables, connectors, epoxies, and sealing mechanisms.
- Ability to work independently on mechanical designs using SolidWorks and other software.
- Capacity to work with minimal supervision and manage assigned tasks and projects effectively.
- Strong ability to read, learn, and analyze complex materials and processes; search for solutions and develop innovative approaches.
- Resourceful problem-solver who applies knowledge and experience to develop solutions.
- Proactive in locating and collaborating with external suppliers to engage additional capabilities for project tasks.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.
- Willingness and ability to mentor and train colleagues within the work group.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and email; capable of developing tools or simple applications using these tools.
