Senior GIS Solutions Engineer
Job Description
Senior GIS Solutions Engineer role based in Alexandria, VA (onsite), overseeing geospatial tasks, requirements gathering, solution design and implementation, system integration, deployments, administration, troubleshooting, and training for clients and project managers.
Responsibilities
- Provides advanced geospatial guidance to managers, clients and technical staff
- Leads technical discussions with internal and client teams, including requirements capture, solution design, testing and training
- Reviews and documents recommendations, procedures and designs to support enterprise GIS activities and related technologies
- Advises on technology purchases with a focus on geospatial processing, data storage, access and acquisition requirements
- Establishes standards and procedures for geospatial projects, data, applications and database schemas
- Collaborates with project managers to monitor progress and implementation of initiatives
- Evaluates feasibility of potential future projects and prepares technical proposals and cost estimates
- Occasionally manages small to medium sized technical projects and client relationships
- Mentors technical staff and proactively shares knowledge and information
- Regularly designs, deploys and troubleshoots Esri server technologies at a System Administrator level
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Information Technology or related field
- Ability to obtain a security clearance, TWIC or similar, typically requiring U.S. citizenship and a background check
- 8+ years of experience implementing, administering and advanced usage of geospatial applications
- Extensive experience with the Esri ArcGIS suite, including server-side Enterprise technologies and Web GIS application creation/admin (eg ArcGIS Experience Builder, Survey123)
- Advanced proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and scripting languages such as Python, ArcPy, and Arcade
- Experience with mobile and field data capture technologies (GPS, LiDAR, Esri Field Maps, etc.)
- Experience deploying, configuring and troubleshooting Esri server technologies (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server)
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple deadlines
- Advanced understanding of business analysis techniques and processes
- Ability to collaborate with various departments to execute a proposed project plan
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for requirements gathering, system documentation and training
- Hands on experience performing or leading Geospatial System integration activities
- Significant experience designing, deploying and administering Esri Server technologies such as ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Server
- Consulting experience
- Experience with Enterprise IT processes, systems and terminology
- Experience with SQL and/or PostgreSQL for database administration
- Esri Professional level certifications
- Certifications or experience related to Cloud technologies, System Architecture, Cybersecurity
- Familiarity with Computer Aided Drafting technologies such as AutoCAD, MicroStation
- Some experience with Azure, GCC High and/or CMMC Compliant NIST 800-171
