Senior Linux Software Engineer
Job Description
Join Teledyne Technologies Inc. in West Lafayette, IN (onsite) to build and sustain software for advanced analytical instrumentation systems. This role focuses on embedded Linux application development, instrument control, and software architecture, with ownership across the software development lifecycle.
You will collaborate with engineering, scientific, project management, and manufacturing teams to deliver reliable solutions, strengthen existing products through troubleshooting and defect resolution, and contribute to continuous improvement through design and code reviews.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and embedded systems across the full software development lifecycle.
- Build software solutions spanning instrument control and user interfaces, plus data processing and analytical algorithms.
- Implement user-facing experiences and data analysis capabilities, including instrument troubleshooting and debugging support.
- Support new product development and sustain existing products through troubleshooting, enhancements, and defect resolution.
- Work closely with engineering, scientific, project management, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software development experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (equivalent experience considered).
- Hands-on experience with embedded Linux, including Linux system configuration, Bash scripting, Yocto/BitBake, Linux kernel and driver development, device trees, U-Boot, and software package management and deployment/update frameworks such as SWUpdate.
- Strong proficiency in C# and .NET, along with object-oriented software design.
- Experience using Git and collaborative software development practices.
- Experience developing software for embedded systems and distributed architectures.
- Strong understanding of multi-threaded programming, debugging, and software security principles.
- Programming experience in C and C++; Rust experience is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Blazor, WebSockets, and GraphQL.
- Experience with Docker or other containerization technologies.
- Experience with instrumentation control, scientific instruments, or mass spectrometry systems.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment.
- Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems and hardware integration.
- Familiarity with Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) in a development environment.
