Senior Project Engineer
Job Description
This on-site senior project engineering role leads the full design lifecycle for data center infrastructure in Columbus, OH, coordinating cross-functional teams to align with lease, customer, and operational requirements.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the creation, review, and ongoing refinement of design packages, standards, and technical specifications to ensure reliability and consistency across facilities.
- Establish early design baselines and verify alignment with lease terms, customer requirements, and internal standards.
- Coordinate internal and external design teams, fostering collaboration to meet project objectives, sustainability targets, and delivery schedules.
- Regularly visit project sites to monitor design execution and track RFIs, deviations, and change requests.
- Serve as the technical lead for client and stakeholder engagements, including leading technical meetings and design reviews.
- Provide detailed, regular updates on design progress, risks, blockers, and priorities to internal leadership and external partners.
- Support procurement and project leadership in selecting and managing regional design partners and contractors.
- Oversee contract execution and Value Engineering initiatives in collaboration with the General Contractor and Engineer of Record.
- Drive continuous improvement by refining design, procurement, and construction processes.
- Anticipate and mitigate risks related to design quality and engineering execution.
- Lead benchmarking efforts to ensure regional alignment and adoption of best practices.
- Provide on-site support for Change Management and REACH processes across engineering disciplines, ensuring effective implementation and reporting.
- Lead regular design team meetings to provide feedback, alignment, and issue resolution.
- Facilitate Lessons Learned sessions and ensure insights are captured and applied across projects and regions.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Planning, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of data center design management or equivalent technical leadership; 5+ years preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in data center design with familiarity of North American construction markets preferred.
- Solid working knowledge of critical power and cooling infrastructure systems.
- Familiarity with applicable building codes, fire ordinances, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation standards.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Travel expected approximately 15–30%, with potential for increases as business needs evolve.
