Senior Software Engineer

Lyft’s Growth Platforms team in New York offers a pivotal role for a Senior Software Engineer who will help build and own applications powering incentives and messaging systems. This position operates in a hybrid mode, collaborating with product managers, designers, data scientists, and cross-functional engineering squads to deliver scalable and reliable solutions that support growth initiatives.

Compensation and Location

• Location: New York, NY (hybrid)
• Salary: USD 148,000 - 185,000 per year
• Experience: 5+ years
• Education: BS/MS or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Contribute to roadmaps and system architecture aligned with technology needs and business goals
• Unblock teams, provide support, and communicate clearly to secure cross-team buy-in for outcomes
• Lead multi-person projects from concept through successful execution
• Write clean, thoroughly tested, readable, and maintainable backend code
• Leverage expertise in Python, Go, AWS, and AI to deliver robust, scalable solutions
• Participate in code reviews to maintain quality and share knowledge across the group
• Actively engage in incident resolution and on-call rotations
• Share knowledge through tech talks, mentoring, and advocating engineering best practices

Requirements

• BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or relevant work experience
• 5+ years of software engineering industry experience
• Strong background in object-oriented programming, preferably Python or Go
• Experience building backend components for large-scale distributed systems, with concurrency and NoSQL databases
• Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
• Track record of designing and launching multiple components from concept to production
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams
