Job Description

Benefits and culture

Odyssey Consulting offers a competitive compensation package and a collaborative, mission-driven environment. This contract Senior Software Engineer position operates in a hybrid model based in Colorado Springs, CO or Boston, MA, with travel estimated at 15 to 20 percent. The role carries a salary range of USD 130,000 to 160,000 per year and a comprehensive benefits program that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage; life insurance; a Tricare supplement; short- and long-term disability; a 401(k) match; flexible spending accounts; health savings accounts; an employee assistance program; and a dedicated learning and development benefit. Odyssey values commitment, ambition, and respect and supports community impact through OdysseyCares, a philanthropic program. This opportunity is suitable for engineers who want to contribute to high-performance, data-intensive desktop and cross-platform applications while advancing their technical and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize the Julia based physics computation server, including trajectory integration with RK4/RK45 (DifferentialEquations.jl), SGP4 orbital propagation (SatelliteToolbox.jl), and a Monte Carlo driver with Threads.@threads parallelism.
  • Profile and tune computation-critical paths; benchmark throughput and latency to meet program requirements such as 10,000 Monte Carlo runs within a defined wall-clock target.
  • Incorporate ONNX.jl surrogate model inference for real-time parameter sweeps and ensure interactive latency remains under 1 ms.
  • Generate CZML from physics outputs for Cesium visualization, including trajectory arcs, orbital paths, and coverage footprints.
  • Design and maintain the mission data model with JSON serialization, a versioned file format for backward compatibility, and cross-platform path handling for Windows and Linux.
  • Implement the HTTP.jl API layer with clear request/response schemas, solid error handling, and structured logging.
  • Build React/TypeScript components for the mission planning interface, including mission overview, asset/task views, parameter forms, and an analysis panel.
  • Integrate and maintain CesiumJS/Resium 3D globe features such as asset markers, trajectory rendering, satellite ground tracks, coverage footprints, and CZML-driven animation with the Cesium timeline.
  • Manage frontend state for mission data, UI state, and asynchronous physics query results using patterns suitable for data-heavy desktop applications.
  • Develop data-driven visualizations for trajectory plots, Pk curves, and Monte Carlo distributions using Recharts, Plotly.js, or equivalent tools.
  • Maintain the CI/CD pipeline in GitHub Actions to produce Windows NSIS installers and Linux AppImages from a shared codebase.
  • Oversee PackageCompiler.jl sysimage builds for the Julia physics server binary on target platforms and maintain electron-builder configurations and packaging scripts for cross-platform installers.
  • Embed ONNX model files and assets at build time and manage versioning of bundled artifacts for consistent deployments.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: US citizen
  • Clearance: Active Secret Clearance
  • Education: B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related STEM field
  • Experience: 5+ years of software development with demonstrated depth in scientific computing, numerical simulation, high-performance computing, or data-intensive desktop applications
  • Frontend proficiency: TypeScript/React or equivalent modern framework
  • Backend/compute proficiency: experience with a compiled or JIT-compiled high-performance language (Julia, C++, Rust, Fortran, or Python with NumPy/Numba/Cython extensions)
  • Parallel computing knowledge: thread-level parallelism, SIMD, memory-access optimization
  • API experience: REST design and implementation within a single-machine client-server boundary
