Senior Software Engineer, Rust
Job Description
Senior Software Engineer (Rust) at Anduril Industries will help build and evolve high-performance Rust software for real-time tracking, state estimation, and multi-sensor data fusion.
Responsibilities
- Set and shape the direction of a small team using domain expertise in target tracking and state estimation
- Architect, maintain, and evolve complex production software systems, including refactoring to improve performance, maintainability, and scalability
- Prototype and deploy modern algorithms for tracking, multi-sensor fusion, and state estimation in agile, iterative development
- Build high-performance Rust systems for real-time use, including tactical implementations plus simulation and decision support tools
- Implement robust filters, estimators, and probabilistic reasoning to extract actionable insights from noisy, ambiguous, or incomplete sensor data
- Apply software design patterns and architectural best practices to manage technical debt and guide long-term system evolution
- Validate impact through performance analysis using high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and rigorous statistical techniques
- Support customer success by adapting algorithms and software for mission-critical scenarios (real-time tracking and sensor fusion)
- Integrate tracking and estimation capabilities across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements through testing and optimization
- Communicate technical progress into clear, actionable insights for varied stakeholders, including colleagues and end-users
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, or another technical field (advanced degree strongly preferred)
- Proven experience evolving software architecture in production, including refactoring legacy systems and managing technical debt
- At least 2+ years working on a single codebase or product, maintaining and expanding it as requirements changed
- Deep understanding of design patterns, architectural principles, and best practices for maintainable, scalable systems (beyond syntax)
- Algorithm design, software development, and statistical modeling experience; Rust and Python
- Applied math foundation including linear algebra, optimization, probability, and stochastic processes
- Familiarity with big data pipelines and NoSQL databases for efficient large-scale sensor data handling
- Ability to engineer systems for estimation theory, adaptive filtering, controls, and complex signal environments
- Experience moving from prototyping to production optimization
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Technologies
- Rust
- Python
- NoSQL databases
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience refactoring and modernizing Rust codebases in production
- History of architectural decision-making and technical leadership on long-lived projects
- Contributions to open-source Rust projects or the broader Rust ecosystem
- Experience with concurrent and parallel programming patterns in Rust
- Background in state estimation, including Bayesian filtering, sensor fusion, and recursive estimation
- Machine learning background applied to target tracking and recognition (clustering, classification, anomaly detection)
- Knowledge of target tracking methods such as Kalman filters, particle filters, and multi-target tracking (JPDA, MHT, PHD filters)
- Signal processing experience for diverse sensor data (radar, lidar, EO/IR)
Compensation & Location
- Location: Broomfield, CO (onsite)
- Salary: USD 165,000 - 219,000 per year
Benefits
- Comprehensive, competitive benefits package available at little to no cost to employees for health, recovery, and more
- Highly competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers and counted as part of total compensation
Transcripts Request
- Transcripts are requested as part of the early application process to understand academic background and how coursework supports role-critical skills
- If you don’t share transcripts, provide detailed information about academic performance in relevant courses, including project and coursework specifics
- If you provide transcripts, you may redact non-technical information (for example, student ID, dates, non-technical coursework)
- Unofficial transcripts retrieved online are acceptable for this assessment
