Job Description

Anduril Industries is seeking a Software Engineer to focus on target tracking, state estimation, and multi-sensor data fusion for real-time systems and mission-focused simulation and decision-support tools.

Location

Waltham, MA (onsite)

Compensation

USD 167,000 - 222,000 per year

Summary

This role supports algorithm development and high-performance software engineering across tracking, state estimation, and probabilistic reasoning, with an emphasis on enabling actionable insights from noisy or incomplete sensor data. Work includes prototyping, deployment, performance validation, and integration across the full software development lifecycle for defense-related applications.

Responsibilities

  • Define and influence the direction of a small team using subject-matter expertise in target tracking and state estimation.
  • Prototype and deploy modern algorithms for tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, and state estimation in agile, iterative development environments.
  • Develop high-performance software for real-time systems, spanning tactical implementations, simulation environments, and decision-support tools.
  • Design and implement robust filters, estimators, and probabilistic reasoning systems to derive actionable insights from ambiguous or noisy sensor inputs.
  • Analyze system performance using high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and rigorous statistical techniques to validate technology benefits.
  • Support customer success by customizing algorithms and software for mission-critical use cases, including real-time tracking and sensor fusion.
  • Integrate tracking and estimation capabilities into the broader software development lifecycle, from requirements through testing and optimization.
  • Communicate technical progress into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders and end-users.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in algorithm design, software development, and statistical modeling, including programming experience with C/C++, Python, and Matlab.
  • Strong knowledge of target tracking methods, including Kalman filters, particle filters, and multi-target tracking approaches such as JPDA, MHT, or PHD filters.
  • Experience with state estimation, including Bayesian filtering, sensor fusion, and recursive estimation techniques.
  • Solid understanding of applied mathematics, including linear algebra, optimization, probability, and stochastic processes.
  • Knowledge of signal processing for interpreting diverse sensor data, such as radar, lidar, and EO/IR.
  • Familiarity with big data pipelines and NoSQL databases for efficient handling of large-scale sensor data.
  • Background in machine learning as applied to target tracking and recognition, including clustering, classification, and anomaly detection.
  • Ability to engineer robust estimation systems for topics including estimation theory, adaptive filtering, controls, and complex signal environments.
  • Demonstrated experience across development lifecycles from prototyping through production system optimization.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

Technologies

  • C/C++, Python, Matlab
  • Kalman filters, particle filters
  • JPDA, MHT, PHD filters
  • Bayesian filtering
  • NoSQL databases
  • Radar, lidar, EO/IR
