Senior Structures Engineer
Job Description
Senior Structures Engineer role focused on designing, building, testing, and transitioning next generation aircraft aerostructures.
Responsibilities
- Own detailed project planning and drive hardware delivery against aggressive timelines.
- Partner with high-level design concepts and translate them into detailed designs, including final geometry, material selection, and DFM considerations.
- Build end-to-end design-to-build-to-test workflows covering factory layout, tooling, test flow, and vehicle integration and test.
- Analyze build non-conformances and define next-step actions to enable low rate prototype hardware progress.
- Lead prototype-to-production transition for complex aerospace assemblies.
- Continuously simplify processes by removing unnecessary complexity, eliminating waste, and streamlining flow.
- Conduct detailed structural analysis and deliver structural margin reporting.
- Develop and execute test procedures for flight hardware.
- Act as a force multiplier across production, test, and design teams.
Requirements
- Strong engineering fundamentals and first principles approach.
- Comfort working with CAD, test equipment, and hand tools.
- Hands-on experience building hardware that has flown, broken, or both.
- Proven capability to design, build, break, and iterate quickly.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, or related engineering field.
- Hands-on physical hardware experience, including internships, labs, and project teams.
- Manufacturing process familiarity (machining, welding, forming, etc.) and working knowledge of GD&T fundamentals.

Preferred Skills & Experience
- Designed and released flight hardware.
- Strong GD&T skills aligned with ASME Y14.5.
- Experience with Siemens Teamcenter and NX.
- Familiarity with NX Nastran and Ansys analysis tooling.
- Familiarity with AWS D17.1 and aerospace welding processes.
- Leadership experience on project teams and/or mentorship roles.
- Experience standing up production lines or test infrastructure in a fast-paced environment.
Location & Travel
- Los Angeles, CA (onsite)
- Travel to test sites, other Hermeus offices, and partner locations as needed (up to 25%).
Compensation
- USD 138,550 - 187,450 per year
