Senior Substation Engineer (Physical Substation Design)

SEL Engineering Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Power Systems Consulting Engineer to support customers worldwide with solutions that protect and control critical electrical infrastructure. In this onsite role in Boise, ID, you will focus on Power Systems Consulting and Substations, combining technical depth with leadership to deliver high-quality engineered outcomes.

This position sits within a broader consulting organization providing services and support across power systems. The role includes mentoring others, serving as a technical authority for SEL equipment applications in your focus area, and helping manage and execute engineered solutions from early design through validation and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor engineers, specialists, and technicians.
• Act as a technical expert in the design and application of SEL equipment and solutions within your focus area.
• Research, innovate, and develop new solutions and/or processes.
• Review, approve, and complete scopes, budgets, and schedules for assigned work while maintaining the highest level of quality.
• Project manage and develop processes, lead training, and support customers with creation, design, configuration, validation, review, installation, commissioning, and operation of engineered solutions.
• Provide environmental, health, and safety leadership by maintaining a safe workplace, supporting safety awareness and training, conducting accident investigations and reporting, and implementing safe and environmentally sound work practices.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering or an applicable discipline.
• 8+ years of working knowledge and experience of electric power systems, or other equivalent transferable knowledge and industry experience.
• Expert knowledge in the area of focus, specifically Power Systems Consulting and Substations.
• Excellent technical training and skills.
• Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

• Supervisory experience.
• Experience in electrical utility, consulting, or system integrator environments.
• Extensive experience with power systems and customers.
• Working knowledge of Vision or other PM tracking software.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license (highly preferred).

Compensation and Location

• Location: Boise, ID (onsite)
• Salary range: USD 136,100 - 170,300 per year
• The company is open to considering candidates with more or less experience, and the salary range may change if hired at a different level.
• Ranges are determined by job and responsibilities.
