Job Description
McNichols is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer/Architect to strengthen and modernize enterprise infrastructure across compute, storage, and virtualization for a hybrid on-premises and cloud roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, support, and maintain enterprise infrastructure across compute, storage, and virtualization (primarily on-premises with increasing hybrid integration)
- Troubleshoot complex system and environment issues; conduct root cause analysis and drive corrective solutions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Network, Security, Applications, and Helpdesk to support stability and high availability
- Lead improvements in performance, reliability, automation, and scalability
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior systems administrators and engineers
- Plan and execute infrastructure work including upgrades, migrations, and new deployments
- Maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures
- Support compliance, security, and patching efforts across enterprise systems
- Interface with vendors for hardware/software support and procurement
- Assist with budget planning and technology selection for IT initiatives and system lifecycle needs
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Satellite Server
- DevOps and Infrastructure as Code (IAC) experience using Ansible and Git (Bitbucket)
- Shell scripting, automation experience, and knowledge of services including SSSD, SELinux, Postfix, and BIND DNS
- In-depth knowledge of enterprise storage systems (block, file, object), including provisioning and performance tuning with EverPure and HPE Alletra
- Strong virtualization experience using VMware ( Nutanix and Xen Server are a plus)
- Experience supporting Windows infrastructure, including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP
- Experience working in or supporting hybrid cloud architecture and hyperscaler solutions such as AWS
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a team-oriented environment and work independently when needed
- Ability to travel to local data centers and respond to urgent system issues as needed

- Exposure to Microsoft 365, Azure AD, AWS, and other cloud services is a plus
