Site AI Engineer

The Site AI Engineer will work on site in Fort Myers, partnering with project AI Champions to convert AI concepts into operational agents and deploy agentic AI to enhance reporting, RFIs, lookahead planning, progress updates, and materials tracking across active construction sites. This role collaborates with the central AI Studio to push forward the Construction Site of the Future initiative.

Responsibilities

• Opportunity discovery and workflow redesign by mapping value streams, assessing process and data maturity, and documenting AI use cases with high impact and low effort.
• Evaluate jobsite workflows and underlying data to identify gaps, then develop phased improvement plans with Operations Excellence to establish a solid process baseline before deploying agents.
• Assess market solutions, pilot select tools, measure impact, and scale successful outcomes.
• Rapidly translate user stories into MVP agents using frameworks such as AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, ChatGPT Enterprise, and others, typically within days; connect front ends to Teams and SharePoint and back ends to Databricks Lakehouse, AWS services, or equivalent data sources.
• Deliver enterprise grade engineering and LLMOps, building agentic RAG pipelines backed by data stores such as OpenSearch; automate infrastructure with GitHub Actions and monitor latency, cost, adoption, and drift.
• Partner with Data Engineering to design and maintain ETL pipelines, API integrations, and event-driven connectors feeding RAG and agents.
• Enable cross-cloud orchestration by combining AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, and Azure OpenAI behind secure connectors; package agents for seamless rollout.
• Support change enablement by training crews, collecting feedback, iterating, and tracking adoption and ROI metrics; apply change management principles to embed agents into daily routines and SOPs and monitor related KPIs.
• Communicate progress to project leadership and clients in clear business terms; contribute use cases and playbooks for Suffolk’s Construction Site of the Future.
• Draft clear user stories, data specifications, and acceptance criteria for complex solutions requiring collaboration with central AI Solution Engineers or Data Engineering / Data Science teams, facilitating the transition from prototypes to scalable implementations.
• Ensure compliance with Suffolk’s information security, data governance, and client confidentiality standards on all on site AI tools.

Requirements

• Four to six plus years in AI engineering or full stack data applications, or data science, including at least two years building production level LLM, RAG, or agentic solutions.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
• Experience in construction or heavy process industries (manufacturing, oil and gas, chemicals) is a strong plus.
• Proven process excellence background with familiarity in diagnosing process and data gaps and supporting change management plans with Operations Excellence; Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt is highly desirable.
• Strong facilitation and communication skills for cross functional collaboration.
• Hands on experience with Claude Code, Devin AI, MS Copilot, and similar coding assistants.
• Programming and data stack proficiency in Python, SQL, FastAPI, Databricks Lakehouse, and vector stores.
• DevOps and infrastructure as code experience with GitHub Actions, Terraform or CloudFormation, and solid Git/GitHub practices.
• Foundational ETL/ELT knowledge, familiarity with Airflow or Databricks Workflows, and REST/GraphQL API development; experience collaborating with Data Engineering on source to lake and lake to agent pipelines.
• Willing and able to travel and work on active job sites.

Duty involves sitting for extended periods, operating a keyboard and phone, and occasional standing and movement around active job sites.
