Position Summary

The Software Engineer role focuses on developing, integrating, and sustaining software components for a defense weapon system across prototype development, testing, and production readiness. The work emphasizes reliable, secure, and maintainable software that supports system functionality and interfaces while meeting Government requirements, with close collaboration alongside systems, electrical, and mechanical engineers.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to ITAR, DFAR, and related regulations and policies.
• Design, implement, test, and sustain software components that support weapon system functionality and interfaces.
• Assist the integration of software with electrical and mechanical subsystems.
• Create and maintain software requirements, design documents, and verification artifacts.
• Support configuration management and software change control activities.
• Participate in system engineering reviews including SRR, PDR, CDR, and Test Readiness Reviews.
• Assist government-led test and evaluation activities, including test preparation and issue resolution.
• Debug software, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions during integration and testing.
• Ensure compliance with government requirements, cybersecurity standards, and applicable MIL-STDs.
• Support software transitions from prototype to production environments.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers delivering software-enabled components.
• Perform other project tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements

• ITAR authorized US Persons are required.
• Must be legally permitted to work in facilities that handle firearms and munitions.
• Willingness to travel on average 25 to 30 percent, with travel potentially international or domestic depending on business needs.
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience developing software for defense, aerospace, or safety-critical systems.
• Experience with embedded software development or system-level software integration.
• Familiarity with real-time operating systems, communications protocols, or hardware and software interfaces.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and configuration management.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages used in embedded or system software environments.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Work Environment

This hands-on engineering program requires collaboration across multiple disciplines and facilities. Occasional travel to manufacturing sites and Government test locations may be required.
