Software Engineer
Job Description
Traackr is seeking a 100% remote Software Engineer to take ownership of backend capabilities end-to-end and contribute to distributed systems that support APIs, data pipelines, analytics, search, and machine learning workloads. The role also emphasizes reliability and operations, experimentation practices, and responsible use of AI coding tools.
Responsibilities
- Own backend features end-to-end, including discovery, design, implementation, rollout, and ongoing reliability and operations, with support from more experienced teammates when needed.
- Design and evolve distributed systems, including services, pipelines, and data stores, with focus on performance, scalability, and resiliency.
- Build and maintain APIs and data access patterns that enable analytics and search use cases.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize scalable data pipelines that power product features, analytics, and machine learning workloads.
- Maintain data reliability, quality, and performance across systems by monitoring and troubleshooting pipelines to support consistent, timely delivery.
- Practice strong engineering habits, including thorough code reviews, solid testing, incident readiness, and operational excellence.
- Use an experimentation-first approach by defining hypotheses and success metrics or guardrails, running controlled rollouts and A/B tests when appropriate, and writing clear readouts for stakeholders.
- Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code productively and responsibly for implementation, debugging, refactoring, and design reviews while maintaining standards for correctness, security, and privacy.
- Apply evaluation discipline to AI-assisted work by treating prompts and configurations as versioned artifacts, designing regression tests, measuring quality changes, and monitoring drift in the same way as performance or correctness.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and fellow Engineers to ship intelligent, data-driven products.
- Share knowledge through clear documentation, pairing, and participation in code reviews.
- Document systems, pipelines, and architecture, and help evolve engineering best practices.
- Stay current with emerging tools, frameworks, and trends across software, data, and AI engineering.
Requirements
- 2-4 years of professional software engineering experience building backend systems and interest in growing into larger distributed systems challenges.
- A growth mindset, including curiosity, a habit of learning new tools and domains quickly, and openness to feedback.
- Strong general-purpose programming skills and software engineering fundamentals.
- Solid debugging skills and the ability to troubleshoot and performance-tune production services.
- Strong SQL and data modeling skills.
- Experience with Git and CI/CD workflows.
- Comfort using AI coding assistants like Claude Code within the workflow, paired with discipline to validate outputs through tests, metrics, and evaluation rather than trusting them blindly.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions.
