Job Description

Systems Planning and Analysis (SPA) is hiring an entry level Software Engineer to strengthen the ORCA group’s modeling and data analysis software efforts. This onsite role in San Diego, CA supports both new development and ongoing improvement of desktop, server backend, and web-based utilities used by customers.

In this position, you will design and build software solutions, evaluate requirements using engineering and mathematical principles, and help ensure products are tested and documented for long-term use. The role includes opportunities to work across modern technologies spanning web services, databases, and multiple programming languages.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve desktop, server backend, and web-based software, including specialized utilities for customer support.
  • Analyze and quantify requirements, applying computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to implement solutions.
  • Update, enhance, test, and document existing software products.
  • Thoroughly test software and maintain clear documentation for delivered capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming, including design patterns, polymorphism, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience in software development and database design and maintenance.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoW Top Secret clearance with SCI access.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: San Diego, CA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 85,000 - 95,000 per year
