Software Engineer
Job Description
P3S CORPORATION is seeking a Senior Software Engineer IV to deliver senior-level systems and software engineering support for the Department of the Air Force Financial Management enterprise. This role operates in an integrated, mission-critical environment where engineering decisions must account for interconnected software, infrastructure, databases, cybersecurity, and operational readiness across the full lifecycle.
The position is based in Dayton, OH with remote support for Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota and Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, with a salary of USD 120,000 per year. The minimum experience requirement is 14 years.
Engineering responsibilities
- Analyze existing systems, proposed modifications, technical deficiencies, operational requirements, and system dependencies to determine appropriate engineering solutions.
- Evaluate proposed changes for impact to application functionality, infrastructure, database services, cybersecurity controls, system performance, configuration baselines, and operational availability.
- Develop and recommend corrective engineering solutions for identified technical problems.
- Support implementation of approved system modifications to maintain system usability and mission capability as technical environments evolve.
- Account for immediate technical requirements while managing downstream impacts to interconnected systems and technical domains.
- Support the complete engineering lifecycle, from requirements and technical analysis through implementation, testing, deployment, validation, sustainment, and corrective action.
- Provide senior technical recommendations to Government and contractor stakeholders regarding system enhancements, modernization, sustainment, risks, dependencies, and technical alternatives.
- Maintain controlled development and test environments, including analysis of software updates, patches, enhancements, configuration changes, and system modifications before production deployment.
- Define and maintain appropriate configuration controls for development and test assets.
- Conduct or support technical testing, including development of test approaches, validation criteria, engineering procedures, and technical documentation.
- Verify that patches, updates, enhancements, and system modifications function as intended, including interoperability and technical dependencies between modified components and the broader environment.
- Identify defects, unexpected behavior, incompatibilities, performance impacts, and security concerns prior to production release.
- Support test-data management and protection requirements, including secure backup and off-site storage associated with development data.
- Document test results, deficiencies, remediation actions, residual risks, and production-readiness findings, and provide engineering recommendations on production deployment readiness.
- Evaluate proposed system changes prior to implementation, reviewing requirements, dependencies, interfaces, implementation plans, rollback considerations, and operational impacts.
- Participate in technical and configuration reviews and assist with development of implementation plans and engineering procedures.
- Support controlled deployment of approved modifications, verify configuration control integrity after implementation, and perform post-deployment technical validation.
- Triage and resolve implementation-related issues, recommending rollback or corrective actions when deployed changes do not achieve required results.
- Operate as a senior technical integrator across multiple engineering disciplines, coordinating work when changes affect more than one technical area.
- Communicate system dependencies, implementation impacts, technical risks, and engineering recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Incorporate cybersecurity requirements into engineering decisions, coordinate with cybersecurity specialists, and support implementation and validation of applicable security controls.
- Evaluate changes for potential cybersecurity impacts, support vulnerability remediation activities, and test remediation effectiveness.
- Maintain awareness of applicable Federal, DoD, and Air Force cybersecurity requirements affecting assigned systems, and support technical implementation activities associated with RMF and Assessment and Authorization requirements when assigned.
- Maintain awareness of approved system configuration baselines and evaluate proposed changes against established technical baselines, ensuring documentation and baseline integrity, identifying configuration drift, and coordinating corrective actions.
- Support traceability between approved requirements, modifications, testing, implementation, and final configuration, while ensuring synchronization across software, configuration, infrastructure, and related technical changes.
- Support version control and technical documentation governance, including documentation of engineering results, unresolved risks, technical decisions, and lessons learned.
- Perform structured analysis of complex system problems, including root-cause analysis of technical failures or degradation, with log and configuration analysis.
- Develop sustainable corrective actions, support Level III technical escalation activities, and participate in readiness reviews, change-control activities, deployment reviews, and Government technical briefings.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, implementation concerns, resource impacts, and readiness issues that require resolution before significant system changes proceed.
