Software Engineer / Senior Software Engineer

Build mission-critical software that supports Department of War, other government customers, and commercial clients. CoreVault Solutions offers the opportunity to design, develop, and sustain backend services that integrate sensors and operational systems, with hands-on support for deployments in real operational environments. This onsite role in Rome, NY includes professional training, clear support for required security clearance, and the chance to collaborate directly with government customers and operational users.

Salary: $105,000.00 - $142,931.95 per year
Work location: In person (Rome, NY 13440)
Travel: Up to 20% CONUS; occasional OCONUS opportunities (Willingness to travel listed as 25% required)

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, integrate, deploy, and maintain mission-critical software applications and services.
• Build backend services, APIs, data-processing components, interfaces, and system integrations.
• Develop software for command and control, air domain awareness, unmanned systems, geospatial visualization, and operational decision support.
• Integrate external sensors, platforms, data feeds, tactical applications, and government systems.
• Process, correlate, distribute, store, and visualize operational data.
• Troubleshoot software behavior across distributed and networked environments.
• Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, code reviews, testing, and technical planning.
• Create automated tests and support integration, regression, and acceptance testing.
• Support containerized applications and deployments using Kubernetes, Helm, and related technologies.
• Work with DevSecOps and systems engineering personnel to improve build, deployment, configuration, monitoring, and release processes.
• Identify and remediate software defects, security findings, performance issues, and integration problems.
• Maintain technical documentation.
• Support demonstrations, exercises, customer testing, field deployments, and operational troubleshooting as required.
• Collaborate with government customers, operational users, engineers, and external technical partners.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience).
• Professional software-development experience appropriate to the level of the position.
• Strong programming skills in Java and/or other modern object-oriented programming languages.
• Experience developing backend applications, services, APIs, or distributed systems.
• Experience with software-development tools, source control, debugging, testing, and build processes.
• Working knowledge of Linux environments.
• Understanding of networking concepts and software communication between distributed systems.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and independently develop practical technical solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the required U.S. Government security clearance for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current U.S. Department of War Secret clearance or higher.
• 5+ years of professional software-development experience, or candidates with significant technical depth and leadership experience considered at the Senior level.
• Experience developing software for Department of War, federal government, aviation, UAS, command-and-control, or mission systems.
• Experience with Java, Spring/Spring Boot, Gradle, REST APIs, messaging systems, databases, or distributed architectures.
• Experience with Docker/OCI containers, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD, and automated deployment.
• Experience with geospatial systems, maps, TAK/ATAK, Cursor-on-Target, ADS-B, sensors, radar, RF, or UAS data.
• Experience developing Android applications, ATAK plugins, or integrations with TAK/CoT ecosystems.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, GovCloud, or hybrid cloud/on-premises environments.
• Familiarity with secure software development, STIGs, vulnerability remediation, and government cybersecurity requirements.
