Software Engineer

Ambarella is seeking a Software Engineer to help build software and modeling solutions for AI-enabled camera silicon. The role supports the full software development lifecycle for standards-based real-time hardware video codecs, working closely with cross-functional teams to improve existing technologies and deliver next-generation codec solutions. This is an onsite position in Ohio.

In this role, you will contribute across codec algorithm development, reference modeling, and validation tooling, with responsibilities that extend from firmware to integration efforts. The work emphasizes video quality, low latency, and hardware efficiency while maintaining real-time performance expectations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize video codec algorithms targeting video quality, low latency, and hardware efficiency.
• Implement and maintain reference codec models.
• Collaborate on silicon architecture modeling and hardware/software co-design.
• Develop silicon verification and diagnostic tools.
• Design and maintain real-time product firmware.
• Implement and tune software rate control algorithms.
• Work with engineering teams to integrate and validate codec solutions.

Requirements

• Strong programming skills in C and C++.
• Embedded software development experience.
• Familiarity with video compression standards including H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1, or similar.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools to improve software design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation efficiency.
