Software Engineer, Agentic Tooling

This role focuses on building the harness and skill ecosystem for the AI org powering FSD and Optimus, including harness extensions, skill shipping, evaluations, observability, and production infrastructure through cross-team collaboration.

Location: Palo Alto, CA (onsite) | Compensation: USD 140,000 - 390,000 per year

Responsibilities

• Extend the agent runtime and tool ecosystem end to end, adding new tools, integrations, and backends while preserving existing skills and keeping the platform easy to extend as the ecosystem evolves
• Ship new skills that address real workflows for engineers across the AI org, from one-off automations to reusable agent capabilities used fleet-wide
• Design and operate the evaluation framework to detect regressions in prompts, skills, harness changes, and model upgrades before they reach users
• Own session-level observability across tracing, logging, and metrics; build dashboards and alerts that surface issues before users experience them
• Manage production agent services on Kubernetes, async backend services, durable storage for session memory and embeddings, and public-facing APIs that route work to these services
• Contribute to architectural decisions with a focus on security, scalability, and reliability, particularly around credential isolation and the interfaces between harness, model runtime, and the sandboxing layer
• Embed with users and deliver cross-team, end-to-end solutions; collaborate with engineers across the AI org to understand workflows, identify toil moments, and drive from initial conversation through prototype, rollout, and hand-off
• Lead first versions of high-impact tools when starting from zero to one, ensuring practical usability and adoption

Requirements

• Proficiency with Python; Go is a plus
• Strong Linux systems foundation; containerization and Kubernetes experience are a plus
• Solid background in concurrent and asynchronous programming
• Experience with relational and vector data stores to support long-running agent workflows (session memory and embeddings) is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to tackle open-ended problems and instinct for product-focused solutions, prioritizing usable first versions
• Adaptability and curiosity in a fast-moving environment with weekly model and agent updates
• Experience with Claude Code SDK, ACP (Agent Client Protocol), or opencode is a plus
• Exposure to sandboxing techniques and application security, including sandboxed code execution, container isolation, capability-based access control, credential isolation, and secrets management, is a plus
• Experience building or operating an evaluation pipeline for skills, prompts, or models, including offline replay and regression gating in CI
• Experience with CI/CD for ML or agent systems, distributed task orchestration, or developer-tools work where the customer is another engineer

Compensation

• Base salary range: USD 140,000 - 390,000 per year, plus cash and stock awards and benefits
