Software Engineer (AI Focused)

Assurant is hiring a Software Engineer with an AI focus to help build and deliver AI-powered products into production environments. The role emphasizes practical implementation of AI capabilities, including model integrations, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, evaluation, and production support services.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, test, and ship production features for AI systems, including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and model orchestration components.
• Create and maintain evaluation cases and test suites to identify regressions in AI system quality before release.
• Implement and refine prompts, tool or function definitions, and guardrails, using evaluation results to drive iterative changes.
• Support the services, APIs, and data pipelines that power AI features, including instrumentation, logging, and dashboards.
• Investigate and resolve production issues such as latency spikes, cost anomalies, quality regressions, and failed tool calls.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and post-incident analyses, including knowledge sharing and follow-up learning.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data Science to translate requirements into working software while identifying tradeoffs early.
• Keep documentation and runbooks current for the systems you own or support.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production software.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, TypeScript, Java, Go, or C#.
• Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs into applications, including prompting, structured outputs, and function or tool calling.
• Working knowledge of backend fundamentals, including REST APIs, databases, version control, testing, and debugging.
• Curiosity about AI behavior in real-world conditions, with a focus on measuring outcomes rather than assumptions.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with comfort asking for help and providing status updates.

• Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tooling.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools.
• Awareness of responsible AI practices, including safety testing, content filtering, and bias considerations.
• Open-source contributions, technical writing, or side projects involving LLMs.

Hybrid Location

This is a hybrid role based out of the Atlanta or Miami office.

Compensation and Experience Level

• Salary range: USD 74,600 - 124,700 per year
• Minimum experience: 2 years
