Job Description
The Software Engineer, AI Security is a hands-on engineering role within Amazon Security focused on building and maintaining a vulnerability auditing and review platform for AI-enabled software. The position emphasizes end-to-end development, operation, and security of software that identifies and mitigates risks in AI-integrated applications.

Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and deliver security oriented features for the vulnerability auditing and review platform; design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain them.
- Enhance vulnerability detection capabilities for LLM integrated services and tools, including foundational models, MCP servers, agents, and agent skills and capabilities.
- Provide end-to-end feature delivery, translating customer requirements into production-ready software and ongoing operations.
- Refactor or deprecate legacy components to ensure long term maintainability and extensibility of the platform.
- Develop automated scanning and analysis tooling to identify security vulnerabilities in AI integrated software components.
- Implement detectors for adversarial attacks, prompt injection, capability boundary violations, and other LLM specific threat vectors.
- Collaborate with applied scientists to translate AI safety research into production grade platform features.
- Apply secure coding practices and threat modeling across all platform components.
- Own the operational health of your features — monitor, alert, triage, and resolve production issues.
- Identify root causes of operational failures and implement lasting fixes; pursue continuous improvements.
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the team’s operational posture through automation, runbooks, telemetry, and dashboards.
- Balance priorities between new feature development and operational enhancements.
- Design software solutions that bring clarity to complex problems with visible risks or roadblocks.
- Actively participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to engineers at all levels.
- Document platform architecture, testing, operation, and security practices and its role within the AI safety ecosystem.
- Keep skills current by evaluating and applying relevant innovations in security, AI safety, and software engineering.
- Mentor SDE I and new team members to accelerate productivity and growth.
- Train new teammates on platform architecture, operational practices, and team norms.
- Contribute to hiring through interviews, candidate assessments, and raising the bar.
- Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and peers—including applied scientists—to ensure the platform delivers meaningful value and addresses the right problems.
- Resolve disagreements with peers through constructive and inclusive dialogue.
- Communicate effectively about status, risks, tradeoffs, and outcomes of your work.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- At least 2 years of design or architecture experience for new and existing systems, focusing on design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
- At least 1 year of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, distributed software applications and services using one or more of C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
- At least 1 year of Object Oriented Design experience.
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Three or more years of experience in the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
