Software Engineer (Backend, SSIS)

Hunters & Co. is hiring a backend-focused Software Engineer to build and support high-quality software and data solutions using Microsoft technologies. This role combines requirements analysis, solution design, development, troubleshooting, and testing, with delivery activities planned and tracked in Azure DevOps. The position is based in San Juan, PR with a hybrid remote work setup.

Role overview

In this position, you will analyze requirements for new features and enhancements, then design and develop technical solutions end-to-end. You will also troubleshoot issues across applications, data, performance, and production, participate in design and code reviews, and collaborate closely with Product, QA, and Development teams across the software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements and design technical solutions for new features and enhancements.
• Develop, test, document, and maintain high-quality software and data solutions using Microsoft technologies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application, data, performance, and production issues.
• Develop and execute test scenarios to validate accuracy, performance, scalability, and overall solution quality.
• Participate in design and code reviews, providing technical input on requirements, proposed solutions, and potential issues.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and Development teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Follow development best practices, including coding standards, Git/source control, code reviews, CI/CD, security, and technical documentation.
• Plan and track development activities in Azure DevOps.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technology field.
• Five or more years of experience using SQL Server, VS Code, Visual Studio, and business intelligence tools.
• Experience developing and tuning T-SQL queries and stored procedures for SQL Server.
• Experience designing, developing, testing, and deploying software systems or applications.
• Experience developing and deploying packages using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
• Experience developing and deploying reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment across multiple projects.
• Ability to work effectively within an Agile development process.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Ability to develop testable code.
• Experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and testing.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience using Python for data management and C# and HTML for web application development.
• Experience developing and deploying cubes using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
• Experience designing and implementing extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes and data warehouses.
• Microsoft certifications in SQL Server, Data Management, or Business Intelligence.

Compensation and location

• Salary: USD 55,000 - 60,000 per year
